Year 7’s progress on to the quarterfinals!

The year 7 boys hosted an important Surrey Cup game against Oxted School. Matthew Arnold started the game with tenacity and put Oxted under pressure, however Oxted took a 2-0 lead against the run of play. The boys pulled one goal back to make it 2-1 at half time, showing huge commitment and resilience. Shortly after the second half commencing, Harry K scored a spectacular goal to tie the score, scoring from nearly the halfway line! The game was tense, with two teams battling hard and playing tremendous football, however Matthew Arnold scored to make it 3-2 about 10 minutes into the second half. Oxted then showed grit and determination, to tie the scores once again. With the game reaching the final minutes, Matthew Arnold made it 4-3 and excitement was in the air, the hard worked had paid off! However, Oxted dug deep and managed to score an equaliser with minutes to go; a devastating blow so late on.

 

The teams battled it out in extra time and the game finished 4-4, which meant penalties loomed around the corner. The standard of penalties was extremely high with Matthew Arnold scoring 4/4. Oxted needed to score their 4th to take the shootout to sudden death, however Antoni M kept his nerves, and pulled off an important save to put the boys through to the quarterfinals, playing against Weldon School in Farnham.

 

Huge congratulations to the Year 7’s for representing the school in a professional manner, showing resilience and determination throughout. It was a true team effort, but a massive shoutout to Harry K who scored 3 goals and performed exceptionally. Well done Team!!
